The shift towards digitalization in industries demands companies to be flexible in adjusting their production processes and business strategies. This includes reorganizing their management and production model, rethinking customer relations, realigning their innovation strategies and, more generally, a new understanding of the relationship between capital and labor. Faced with this enormous challenge, the DIG-KIIS project aims to contribute answering two broad questions that become relevant in this context. First, ‘Are Spanish companies prepared for the digital transformation?’ And second, ‘What are the main changes that digital technologies are inducing in the companies that have already started to transform?’ To answer these questions, we propose a broad set of research objectives that we formulate along two lines. First, the identification of factors that facilitate and/or hinder the digital transformation and adoption of digital technologies in Spanish firms. Second, the analysis of the changes happening in companies that have already begun this transformation.
